lukevenk v. crackpotjack
I decided to tackle this review as a twosome to show the contrast in how Twitter can be used. The two subjects are Jay & Jack of Nudia.tv, most famous for their podcast about the show LOST. Their media efforts can be followed @jayandjack, but I’m focusing on their personal accounts: Jay’s lukevenk and Jack’s crackpotjack.
Jack started skeptical of the service, but has recently 180ed into full-on Twitter addiction. Don’t take it from me, hear it from the horses mouth…
Jack follows most of the folks who follow him and, as he is an “Internet Personality,” he likely gets many @ replies. His tweets come in bursts, mostly replying to replies. This is good in that he interacts, bad for a general viewer to his stream.
Jack doesn’t seem to get mass Twittering. He treats Twitter like email. One could argue it is because he is an older square dragged into the on-line scene by his younger co-host, but I like to think of him as the “talent” who needs not concern himself with protocol.

I will say Jack is improving. I followed him early and was subjected to tweets of two varieties: those alerting the public of his favorite sports team and a series of “Good nights” and “Good mornings.” Now he specializes in replying to fans and, in turn, being a fanboy. (He likes tweeting celebs and may have a crush on @Alyssa_Milano ) My advice, Jack? Parlay the replies to DMs and dispense with the pleasantries. Good day to you, sir. I said good day.
Jay, on the other hand, uses Twitter to alert followers of notes of interest. Well, sometimes. His feed is also plagued with too high an @ reply count IMHO, but since he ain’t no followback guy most of his fans don’t have the option to DM him–an @ for an @ is acceptable. If you listen to his shows, he often makes 140 character comments to enrich his long-form content. If you don’t know his stuff, it is inside baseball, but honestly–if you don’t know his stuff, don’t follow either of these guys.
It may sound like I’m being hard on these two, especially Jack. I hope this plug redeems me in their eyes. Before you follow Jay’s lukevenk and Jack’s crackpotjack, listen to their shows. I recommend The Married Man Podcast, with the warning of explicit content all in good fun. Now for the breakdown:

I think your scores are opposite
Jay is to Jack like..
Abbott is to Costello
Martin to Lewis
Ewaks to Star Wars
Rowen to Martin
Barney to Flinstones
Ceso de Dias
Norton to HoneyMooners
Ethel to Fred
and Rose to Benard
(last two references are due to Jacks “Chic” comment on the Tweetback show)
But they are still Righteous Dudes and we all like them both. Peace
Ewaks suck, dude.
